How To Paint Horus Heresy 30k Traitor Word Bearers

WB_Legion_Contemptor_Dred_Serrated_Suns2

See that metallic sheen, that’s what you’ll end up with on your models at the end of this if you do it right.

This is the second of my heresy era painting guides, think my paint’s too thick, you can fuck right off, as this doesn’t even use any proper paint.

A Tale of Von Gamer: Ready To Die

Orks_are_made_4_rokkin

We shoot without a gun,
We’ll take on anyone,
It’s really nothing new,
It’s just a thing we like to do!

You’d better get ready to die
You’d better get ready to kill
You’d better get ready to run,
’cause here we co-o-ome,
You’d better get ready to die!

2015 arcs toward us with all the subtlety of an anvil in flight (in fact, by the time this gets posted, it may well have hit us head-on), and a new year invariably means a cack-handed attempt at pledges. You know how it works. Hand on heart, we stand up and swear that this year will be different. This year we’ll stick to our budget, we’ll do the whole open-accounting thing, we’ll decide on our projects NOW and we’ll see them through the year…

… and then, like a vegetarian who smells a bacon sandwich, we come around, covered in crumbs and grease, stomach churning and yet vaguely satisfied, wondering if there’s any ketchup left after what we just did to ourselves.

Talk: Chris Tomlin from The Black Sun

#fullkitwanker

#fullkitwanker

We’re big fans of The Black Sun, the rowdiest of all the WHFB podcasts, but with sound knowledge, who love the fluff and background of the Warhammer world. After all, we were episode sponsors last year, and polluted the usual nu-metal breaks with some kerb-stomping hardcore. So, it was a no brainer when I was thinking of people to talk to about hobby, as Chris always has a lot to say, and is very passionate about WHFB. So have a read, and also check out Chris on Twitter for more of his musings

Scum & Villainy: Introducing Javier Van Huss

unnamedOne of the mixed blessings of growing up in the hardcore scene is the myriad network of contacts that one builds by simply showing up and being involved. To the eyes of the outside world it may seem strange to connect with people from all over the world based upon shared enthusiasm for agressive music, jumping off of stages and embracing the type of values that are still considered out of step with the squares, but it is what it is. Discontent seeks out it’s own.

One such individual is Javier Van Huss. I had been aware of Jav for a long time before we started talking simply because I liked some of his former bands and I soon realised that we shared mutual appreciatons for the works of Bloodlet, Integrity folklore and pissing people off.

A former member of California hardcore bands 18 Visions, Enewetak, Throwdown and The Mistake, Jav did a brief stint in Poison The Well  as well as being a raconteur, promoter and a damn fine cutter of hair.  Following my departure from Rot In Hell, Jav made an effort to stay in touch which I appreciated although I had no idea at the time that he was following the development of Corehammer. A few weeks ago the following article dropped into my inbox.  Thanks to Jav for reaching out and sharing his thoughts, I have a feeling this won’t be the last we hear from him!  You can follow his musings on twitter @javjavjav and instagram @alloverthistown and for awesome old West Coast Hardcore stuff, Disembodied worship and Morrissey fandom, go check out ALL OVER THIS TOWN

When I was around 11 years old I discovered punk rock from two outlets. Thrasher Magazine and a local cable channel that had a show that aired punk videos. That same year we moved to Orange County, California and from there it was, well I wouldn’t say “easy” to find punk things but it was there. Skater friends started passing me cassettes, then flyers, then I started being able to go to gigs and record stores. We read about new bands and scenes and we scoured the thank you lists looking for other cool bands to check out.

Hobby goals for 2015

Now that's what I call a Pile Of Shame™

Now that’s what I call a Pile Of Shame™

At the start of the year, we all make ambitious plans for multiple armies and to check out all the new hot games, but no plan survives contact with the enemy. Real life, work, family, stress, can’t be arsed, you name it, there’s always a hobby killer. So, without berating the crew for what they didn’t do in 2014, let’s see what plans we have.

Oath Of Moment: Iron Warriors (Part 2)

IMAG3458_1

77th Grand Company, led by Warsmith Meridius. Admired at Warhammer World by his holiness, Graham McNeill

“Tell them ruin has come to their world. Death, despair and red war. Tell them their hopes and pride have come to nothing. Tell them their empty whispers fall upon deaf ears – their gods are dead, human reason has killed them. Tell them the Angels of Death have come. Tell them nothing can save them now.”

— Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors Legion

After getting 1000 points’ worth of Iron Warriors’ 77th Grand Company done for The Dark Throne back in April (see here), I’ve been slowly adding to it over the year, with a couple of Rhinos for my troops to help them get across the board better, a Land Raider to deliver my Terminator Lord and Trident into the enemy lines without relying on the fickle reserves/deep-strike fate, and lastly a tooled up Daemon Prince. As always, drybrushing and plenty of dirty washes have been my friend, and the long-term goal is to go back to everything and highlight a few more steps.

End Of 2014 Chiller

IMG_20141206_201040

Strength 10. Large mosh

2014 has been a good social year for Corehammer with the WHFB Ill Blood tournament, The Dark Throne 40K tournament, plus a couple of trips to Sanctuary Gaming Centre, so we closed the year out in style, with a chiller at Warhammer World, with all and sundry invited. “Let’s have an all-day Apocalypse battle, with a narrative” said David Ager*, so we booked the 6′ by 12′ board, sorted out a Loyalist v Traitors/Xenos rumble, and the warrior lodge descended on Games Workshop HQ

*the fucker never turned up

A visitor’s guide to Manchester

Manchester_Cityscape_745

For such a grubby city, it does look nice from high up.

Manchester, birthplace of the industrial revolution, a city crisscrossed by canals and Victorian architecture, still proudly demonstrating to those who know where to look, the importance of this fair city in the development of the United Kingdom. While not known today for its factories or its mills, it’s still a grand city, and if you find yourself passing through, chances are you might want to check out some of the following establishments, maybe to pick up some modelling supplies, a new comic for the journey home, or that elusive miniature you can’t get in your home town

Emperors Children Fellblade #3 – Weathering

IMAG1192

Whatever I’ve done, I’ve been staring down the barrel of a gun.

This is the final stage in modelling your fellblade or whichever tank you’re following along with, from raw resin straight outta the Forgeworld bags, through a nice neat paint job, and now you’re gonna make it look all messed up and battered.

Jagged Visions – Event Horizon

neptune

A decaying orbit around Neptune isn’t somewhere you’d want to find yourself with an emotionally unstable physicist in tow.

I’m 17 years old, I’ve just paid to go and see a film that looked for all the world like a cross between Predator and Aliens on a space ship, with a banging soundtrack by the Prodigy. Laurence Fishburne stars, and I’m wandering into the now defunct Arena 7 Cinema at the NYNEX Arena with a pep in my step and an excited smile on my face.

Nothing had prepared me for what I was about to experience.
