Clenched fist, to the man in the sky – Part 1

I have had a varied level of success with the achievements in my life – I believe my crowning achievement came when I was 17. Whilst driving through Leeds city centre as part of a three car convoy full of teenage members of the straight edge community returning home after playing a house show, I had a cold piece of pizza in my hand. Going past the university library, I spotted a young lady wearing a low cut top and in a moment of pure clarity I saw the trajectories required in order to launch the pizza through the air and land directly between her breasts. I catapulted the pizza from the car as my fifteen or so friends watched and it piroetted mid air, before landing topping down on her chest – she screamed like she had been struck by the shell from a bolter. Everyone cheered and I knew that it would be the greatest thing I would ever achieve. (I’d like to point out that I didn’t chose a female specifically, I also once egged a man walking to the pub on Christmas Eve).

The reason I mention achievements is because I’ve been into Games Workshop products for about fifteen years now, but have still only built & painted one army of 1000 points, that’s pretty ridiculous. So this overly long introduction was basically to say that my plan with this series of articles is to motivate me to complete a Crimson Fists force and get it to at least 1500 points – hopefully 2000, then I can die relatively happy.inflatable water slide canada

The models I already painted last year, not much but it’s a start!

I started a Crimson Fists army already about a year ago then got sidetracked, so now it’s time to crack on again. There’s a few reasons for doing a CF army, the first being that I think that the paint scheme looks great AND it’s easy to paint. On the subject of painting, I’m not sure what I want to do – I’d like to do this army via the Army Painter method but I’m not sure if it’s achievable. I guess I could undercoat them with a spray gun in Necron Abyss and then use the dip, highlight and so on.

The second being that I like the idea of them being a dying chapter, who despite this are completely willing to go and follow the Emperor’s commands, even if it ends in their complete destruction. They’re basically a version of the Ultramarines that aren’t teacher’s pet bell ends. On top of that they’ve stuck in my mind ever since seeing this…

I haven’t done an army list as of yet so have started with a couple of Tactical Squads, Dreadnought, Land Speeder, Terminator Assault Squad & Chaplain. I’ve got some more models on the way which I’ll show in future posts.

Here’s the incomplete stuff that I painted first time round last year, god knows where I put the bolters/arms for these marines? Anyone know where I can get some?

My idea for the troops is that I want them to look a little rag tag – a chapter that have many veterans that are sticking it out, have seen many battles and Ork WAAAGH!s, so I’ve mixed it up with some helmet-less beardy ZZ Top guys in the mix. I’ve used some left over Space Wolves sprues for this and tried to use the heads that don’t look too obviously canine.

photo 4Fellow Corehammer contributor Stevie hooked me up with tonnes of SM sprues, as well these Dark Angel terminators which I’m going to make a few changes to before painting.

photo 3He also provided me with this Landspeeder – I’ve never built one of these before and it took me AGES to do. However I haven’t seen this one before due to my break from the hobby and the finished product looks completely awesome. Really impressed by it and modified it a little so that one of the dudes is sat in the roof rather than in the back for that ‘naam vibe. I’m going to add some battle damage before I paint it like the usual bullet holes etc.

That’s it for now – there’s not much more to say and I always find these intros can be boring without some proper painting & an army list, so I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with some updates, but for now…

  1. I bloody love the scout sitting on the Land Speeder roof. I was going to make into a terrain piece, like crashed into the ground and half submerged in snow. It never happened and I’m way happier that it’s actually going to be used in an army.
