Oath of Moment: Grey Knights – Part 1

“The daemonic are without number, and their legions span the galaxy. But faith does not tire. Should it take us an eternity, the Ordo Malleus will find and exterminate them all.”
– Lord Hephaestos Grudd

This is a bit of a back story to my current hobby situation. Yes I’m going to ramble, but you’ll get to the rest of the pictures eventually. Just hang in for a little while; I hope it’ll be worth it.

‘We are a blaze in the northern sky’ – The Dark Throne Tournament 2014

Phil Millar: No Joke

Phil Millar: No Joke

April 26th saw the arrival of the first Corehammer 40K tournament The Dark Throne. Hosted by Chris Kaye & myself and (ably assisted by the rest of the crew) at the North West Gaming Centre in tropical Stockport, Dark Throne was something we’d all put a lot of time and love into setting up and running in a style that best refelcted our attitude and approach to gaming. A lot of new players are put off from entering tournaments because of the (sadly often true) preconception that they are teeming with gobshites wearing fedoras and them daft leather trenchcoats bellowing Family Guy quotes and getting on everyones tits. That’s not what Corehammer is about brah, we try to run things like a hardcore show, keep the door price low, the spirits high and the attitude chill. Filth lists were actively discouraged as were gamey twats and annoying neckbeard sensibilities. This was to be a day for relaxed gaming and some laughs with other somewhat functional humans. Oath Of Moment: Iron Warriors (Part 1)

IMAG1928_1

“From iron cometh strength! From strength cometh will! From will cometh faith! From faith cometh honour! From honour cometh iron!”

— Unbreakable Litany of the Iron Warriors Traitor Legion

Since I got back into the hobby, it didn’t take long to decide which army to collect. As a student of the Horus Heresy fluff and lore, after cutting my teeth with Adeptus Titanicus, I’d always been drawn to the original traitor legions, and none more than the IVth legion. Reading the fantastic Angel Exterminatus and Storm Of Iron by Graham McNeill pretty much sealed the deal, with a fantastic insight into Perturabo’s mind and the way the legion goes to war respectively. Cruel, bitter, taken for granted, overlooked, but also with a sharp mind, with attention to detail and meticulous planning. Yeah, that’s the kind of thing I can identify with. No talking swords needed to convert me.

Oath Of Moment: Fenris Youth Arise

The Rout: Work In progress

Work In progress

My commitment to the Oath Of Moment challenge we alluded to the other week is something of a cop out I’m afraid. With The Dark Throne Tournament now only a month away I’m using this part of the challenge as a motivation to get my first 1000 points of 13th Company Space Wolves finished. Now this is the first army I’ve EVER painted. Sure I dabbled with Bloodbowl figures and the ocassional plastic dwarf when I was a kid but this is a whole challenge in itself. I’m a fluff guy primarily, I possess a creative and curious mind. I’ll happily sit and bullshit with you all day about twin tailed comets actually being Thunderhawks, the politics of heresy in the 30K universe, lost Primarchs and all of that caper, but when it comes to practical application of actual brush to model… ehhhhhh not such a natural fit for me. Corehammer Armies Pt 2: Adam Chandler’s Raptors

_MG_0379This is the second in our series of CH Armies features and this time it is the turn of my old friend ‘Sketchy’ Adam Chandler to confess his secrets upon Interrogator Chaplain Beans slab. For my sins I have known Adam for the better part of 15 years  starting back when he was a regular customer at the comic book store in Canterbury that I worked in. Adam was a student at the time and a disgusting mosher whom I took under my wing somewhat and introduced to the local hardcore punk scene that was slowly gestating in the area. Around this time I also discovered just how talented an artist he was and quickly put him to task designing gig posters, shirts and record sleeves. His reputation as an artist  soon outgrew the confines of the local underground punk community and he eventually started producing artwork for touring bands on an international level.

Since those early days Adam has continued to work dilligently churning out oddball fanzines and eccentric artwork (as well as doing favours for whatever band I happened to be in at the time!) and in recent years has built himself a solid reputation as an excellent tattoo artist, with most members of our crew carrying his work on their skin. Adam also runs the Old Bones Bmx/Skateboarding clothing company (links in the sidebar). Some day he and I will finally get round to working on the comic book we’ve been talking about producing for the past fifteen years, but for now he is going to take us through the nuts and bolts of his sickeningly well painted Raptor Legion…… Continue reading

Oath Of Moment – All Is Rust

photo 2
As a painter first, fluff enthusuast second and a gamer third, I find myself buying models for planned projects and trying out new paint colours when I should be finishing off things I bought ages ago.So in a bid to rid my ever increasing unpainted pile of shame and to kickstart my Iron Hands project, I’m pledging to paint everything I have bought for the army before I get too many models and I inevitably lose interest and start something else.

Raging Heroes – Kapitan Ivanka Kurganova Review

the-kurganovas-2_large

The three female commissar models available, plus some sort of weird hippo dog thing I’m not really sure about.

Good looking girls with guns, its that old cliché for the non functioning gamer isn’t it? But I’ll be honest, having grown up on Japanese monster movies and Anime from an early age, I still reckon they’re boss, and no one does it better than the Japanese.

Soda Pop do some good Anime style female models with mechs, giant robots are awesome right? Whats more awesome? Giant robots with hot girls! But recently I’ve been debating some models from the Raging Heroes range. Continue reading

The Long War, Painted Models V Unpainted.

Picture if you will the scene, me and John are setting up our, admittedly very purple, armies on a nicely laid out table at our local gaming centre. Its shaping up to be a fun, cinematic experience with some cool scenery, painted models and good laughs.

IMG_20131003_191816

Tabled, John lost 0 units either thanks to my cursed dice skills.

Setting up next to us is a kid with a Forgeworld army of bare half built resin models, his opponent rocks up and unloads a pile of space marines that have been sprayed with some sort of red car paint, bases and all, as well as a storm raven. I say a storm raven, but this is 3/4 of a Storm Raven, there’s no doors, no weapons, its essentially an empty shell again sprayed in red car paint.

I was almost sick in my mouth.
